My Mom did one of the most awesome things ever for me. She bought me a share in one of the local farms here (CSA- Commnity Supported Agriculture) which in turn gives me locally grown veggies for the season! Some CSA farms ask that you work a couple of hours a season on the farm, which i love! I previously had felt very disconnected with my food (kind of weird i know) and since i live in an apartment until November I can't grow anything to fill my feeling of disconect. Most farmers are organic, some are not. If you do buy organic usually at the grocery store this can decrease your spending by %50-150. I would suggest doing some research on each farm you consider.
